Academic Counselor- West Los Angeles College
Welcome to my second year as a counselor at West Los Angeles College! My student-centered philosophy continues to evolve, now focusing even more on personalized plans. This year, I have become more well-known due to my contact information being displayed on various webpages for the college, and my name tag allows students to instantly recognize me and fosters familiarity. I am thrilled to represent counseling for the STEM and Aviation departments, aligning my approach with our department’s goals and the mission of our Dean and Department Chair to expand the reach and impact of our team. I am proud to represent one of the most talked-about departments on campus.

second year APPROACH
My second-year approach as a counselor at West Los Angeles College has been shaped by various experiences that reinforce my student-centered philosophy. With a focus on holistic support, I recognize each student’s unique strengths and challenges. My roles in the STEM and Aviation departments have enabled me to provide reliable, tailored assistance. Participation in events like Climate Palooza and serving as a Faculty Success Coach have expanded my skills and highlighted the importance of collaboration. Mentoring new counselors and aligning our efforts with the college’s mission further enhance my approach, emphasizing growth and resourcefulness to help students achieve their academic goals.
ENGAGEMENT
With an open-door policy, I’ve been fully engaged in department initiatives, from serving as a Faculty Success Coach to assisting in recruitment efforts like WLAC's 55th anniversary celebration. I look forward to continuing this journey and making an even greater impact on our students' success.
CHALLENGES/
STRENGTHS
Supporting students in managing academic responsibilities with effective strategies remains central to my work and a challenge I meet daily. A focus on career planning and time management—especially for students balancing demanding schedules—has allowed me to make a meaningful difference. Meeting students' unique needs, particularly through the lens of cultural understanding, remains a priority.
GROWTH
This year has been about growth—learning from veteran counselors, participating in events like Climate Palooza, and working collaboratively to strengthen my skills and broaden my approach. I’ve also taken on training new adjuncts, which has helped deepen my own understanding and adaptability.
